Homeschool Room Supply Organization

Basic Disclosure for all post

I have talked about our curriculum organization using file boxes.  However, there is a reason I have avoided the topic of actual school supplies…markers, pencils, crayons, glue, and so forth.  These items have been scattered EVERYWHERE, though I have little pencil boxes for most of it, they never end up back in them.

A few weeks ago, I got an idea, and I bought a pattern to sew up to pull that idea together, only to not find the time to sew the idea together…Umm, therefore, my supplies were still strung out all over everywhere, driving me batty and really frustrating me to no end…LITERALLY!!

Well, on Saturday, I told my dear kind neat freak of a husband that I wanted to take care of this issue, I wanted to be rid of the nagging knowledge that if I have 36-48 hours in a day rather then just 24, I could have this all organized and have made this little organizer thingy-ma-jig.  He asked if there was anything I could purchase reasonably to get us by until I got this thingy-ma-jig made.  Sure, was and he sent me off to get it.  Yep, he is a good guy!!

So, we came home with a  few organizers and low and behold, everything has a place and that place is all in the same room, near where we do our main school stuff, and easily accessible, but most things that need to be out of reach of little fingers are, and well, to me, it is unbelievable.  I honestly can’t wait to get our “real” school year started just so we can see how well this works.

With the way things are set up, even when working on projects, I don’t see why we couldn’t be company ready in 30 minutes.  That is amazing!!!  Truly AMAZING!!!

Now, at the moment my organization is not for the homeschool home fashion show, but it is for the frugally minded creative homeschool mom that would like a few tips to tackle this quickly, painlessly, and with her sanity in tack.

Here are some pictures of what I have done.

Over the Door shoe organizer…holds rulers, pens, markers, pencils and more.

Shower organizer holds “sticky stuff”  glue, tape, stickers, etc.

Sweater Organizer holds manipulatives that are used daily, All About Spelling box, Lapbooking supplies are in the lime green caddy, and each child’s pencil box.  Notice the rolls of packing tape, duck tape, sticky dots and such on the end of the dowel rod?

Some of this will be changing, especially the sweater organizer, as I just bought 6 book cases at target this week as they are on sale.

What do you use in a pinch when you can’t stand the disorganization anymore?

Peace Sig

  4. I think I’ll have to try the shoe organizer for all our art stuff! Thanks for sharing!

  5. Wow, this is excellent information. We always have trouble with those little things getting spread out all over the house. Thanks for the ideas!

  6. Those look great! Maybe look for large rubberbands for those markers? Our room is certainly not a Pottery Barn Ikea Showcase, just getting by. We use my grandfather’s old Check Book Boxes. He saved them all, and they make excellent pencil and knick nack holders. Thanks for sharing - Thanks Hubby for encouraging you!
