As I have entered the years of parenting teens, I have found myself discouraged quite often. Maybe it has to do with the fact my strongest willed child is my oldest and well, he became a teen first…
I have been told that boys brains seem to turn to mush…. Maybe that is why I get so discouraged?
It’s like he doesn’t hear or understand simple directions…
You know, like put your clothes away. Or get dressed we are going to town. I mean simple things.
However, being discouraged all the time doesn’t set an example of living joyfully for God. So, we have to overcome the discouragement and move on. We have to set that example that we can get discouraged, but can also work through it and live our lives for God.
Five Tips for the Discouraged Mom
1. Set some goals, simple goals that you can easily obtain.
On the discouraging days, I tend to set goals something like this…
- Serve 3 healthy meals.
- Do a little laundry.
- Spend time with God and husband.
2. Reach into His word and copy one verse that encourages me to go over and refer to throughout the day.
3. Call and chat with that one 911 friend you have that will give you wisdom, and pray with you.
4. Keep encouraging resources around to allow you to refer back to.
5. Grab the kiddos and do something fun. Whether it be a water gun fight, trip to the park, renting a special movie or something else. Something fun will distract and put your day on a whole different track setting the mood to be better!!
We all get discouraged. It is just part of being human. However, God did not design us to stay discouraged. I pray you find these five tips for discouraged moms to help you get back on the track of serving God joyfully. It is so easy to become overwhelmed with all that we have to get done each day. Add in the unexpected and you can become very discouraged very quickly.
