Over Christmas break we talked about what we wanted to do about His-Story…I felt like there was a missing link, and I knew what that link was. My children needed to start from the beginning and go forth.
We had The Mystery of History from Bright Ideas Press sitting in the house, and well, we started with it, I love it, but I also love to have things for my children to have on hand to read during quiet time. So, I needed something. I also knew what I needed, but, I was stubborn…is it the German or Swedish blood in me?
I also knew I was going to need this resource before the Teach Them Diligently Convention, as I will need this resource to be able to pick out “proven biblical” supplements to our World History Studies.
TruthQuest History has been a part of our history program for over three years now. I can’t tell you enough good about this program. It is intensely Christian, centered around God’s hand in our history, from creation to the present. TruthQuest History makes you dig deeper, and really think. It includes a rich well researched list of literature to supplement each book. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of books listed to read along with your TruthQuest guide.
We are also using the TruthQuest Beginning BinderBuilder, Timeline and Maps with our History adventure.
We are a family that takes His-Story studies slow. We aren’t into memorizing dates and such, but the hows, and whys of historical events and we study in depth about the people involved.
My children love to read and love to be read to, so a literature rich history curriculum is a must.
Why do I combine two different programs?
If we run into a situation where I don’t have literature on hand for a topic, by using Mystery of History as our spine for TruthQuest, I am still able to give them an over view of that topic. Mystery of History provides many hands on activities to supplement.
History is a main, or core subject here. It is the road map of how we got to where we are in our country. If we want to have good leadership among our governing bodies, we need to know our history and be able to learn from it.

If we don’t learn from history, then we repeat it… so I’ve heard. These studies sound great and seem to be working for you!
I really appreciated this post as I’ve been wanting to use both MOH and TQ, but couldn’t decide which to use. Now I know I don’t have to make an either/or decision, but can use them both concurrently! I’ve read many marvelous reviews of both programs, so to understand how they can work together has taken the mystery out of choosing. I wholeheartedly agree that HIStory should be a core subject in homeschooling. Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
It is important to know our history.. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
