One Small Change for Homeschool Peace~Homeschool Snips & Tips

This year has been a heavy academic year for many reasons.

I have added a couple more children the mix, I have higher expectations of what we will cover, we are reviewing lots of new curriculum each month, and the baby isn’t a baby and tends to need more direct structure to keep the house standing. Winking smile

With these additions to our school day, I found that we were not covering some of things I really wanted to.  We would run out of time.  It seemed that no matter how I scheduled our days we hardly ever got to our family daytime Bible/character lessons, group science, and group history.  We weren’t really not doing any Bible, as we have evening studies together, but we are supposed to be doing some during the day too.  My oldest two would get their independent Bible, History and Science work completed, but our together school got lost in our days.

This week, we have gone to starting our day with the group studies.  AHHHHHH!  Hear that sigh of relief?  This makes each day much more manageable.  We are enjoying our daily time together, we are accomplishing what has been planned, I don’t feel like my planning time has been a waste of my time.

Why didn’t I do this earlier?

I am stubborn.  I had set in my mind that family school would be done in the afternoons, after nap time.  It NEVER worked, but I was going to make it work.  I COULD NOT do it.  It was not in God’s plan for us to do it that way.

So, here we are again.  We MUST listen to what God’s plans are for our family.  When we do, we will be blessed.  It is such a blessing for me, my children and my husband to feel the accomplishment of what God and I had planned for the week.

Have you had to change your routine or schedule to complete your plans?  How did you change it?  Did it help?

Sometimes, it’s hard to get out of the rut we seem to be in. I’ve had to change my plans quite a few times, to figure out what God was trying to tell me. I think you hit the nail on the head with this:

We MUST listen to what God’s plans are for our family. When we do, we will be blessed. It is such a blessing for me, my children and my husband to feel the accomplishment of what God and I had planned for the week.
