Sunday, (Father’s Day), was a day full of church and a bit of rest. We ended up just celebrating Father’s day with our family at home. Not the original plan, but God knew we just needed to be together. It was wonderful. I made one of my husband’s favorite meals, Sausage, potatoes, onions, carrots, and seasons placed in a foil packet, grill it and then serve. I then made dessert of ice cream and homemade hot fudge. That evening, we didn’t really get to bed early, but we enjoyed a nice time together.
Monday was a continuation of wheat harvest. Because of allergies, I don’t really get to be that involved. However, I do take meals as needed, but my husband likes to get away from the field for a short bit for lunch, so I normally only take one meal or a snack daily. A minor breakdown on the combine prevented us from finishing harvest. When we took the meal to the field, we saw a deer. We are continuing with our summer homeschool routine. Though at this time, it appears, my expectations may be higher then the number of hours in our days. I am seeing a need for a bit of adjusting. Isn’t that the way it goes though?
Tuesday it was HOT. High humidity and high temperatures, made for a miserable day both inside and out. We did finish wheat harvest, so that is a bit off our shoulders. Today again, between garden, household and school, we didn’t get everything done. Part of life, my philosophy, that’s why there is tomorrow.
Wednesday was still hot, but not as hot. It has been really hard to work in the garden, between the heat and the mosquitoes. They are horrible, and you get near the garden and you are covered. There are many complaining about them right now. I sprayed some stuff around the garden, after picking our few green beans to try and get a bit of control over them. This is only the second year I have ever sprayed because of mosquitoes, but when you walk outside and get covered, it just seems that something must be done. Tonight about bedtime, our oldest said his leg was hurting some. On Sunday, he had jumped from a cattle pen, and landed with a weed scraping his leg. Well, after looking things over, we discovered that some of the weed was imbedded in his leg and now quite infected. We were able to get it opened a bit and drained some. He was not feeling too great though. Sometime around 4 pm my internet went down. Customer service was unable to get it going.
Thursday, he was feeling better in the morning, but by lunchtime, he was complaining and the wound was red, angry and not nice looking. I called and got him an appointment with our pediatrician’s office. He is now on an oral antibiotic and a topical antibiotic. While we were in town we went by the internet provider’s office and found out our hardware was bad. New hardware and we are back online. WOOHOO. We also did some grocery shopping, picking up a couple of items that will make having two computers a little easier—another mouse, and external speakers for my laptop, for educational instant download movies. While the oldest and youngest and I were away from home, a homeschool friend’s daughter stayed with our middle four. She is from a family of six, but spaced out a bit more—16 down to 1. My children loved their time with her, and are trying to find more reasons for her to be needed. Brad is busy swathing, baling, stacking and working ground. Wheat harvest may be over, but the busy-ness of summer will continue for some time.
Friday, is expected to be our slower day. We shall see. I have laundry on the line, and am hoping to get some homeschool goods in the mail. Oldest may help dad in the field for a bit, though we are trying to get him to take it easy and allow his body to heal. We don’t have any extra plans, as our lives revolve around the fields for now, and there is hay everywhere that needs our attention. It is supposed to be hot again, and I plan to enjoy the fact that we have air conditioning. Yes, I am spoiled, and I am ok with that. One of my plans is to add to my Passionate Housewives post and get caught up on a couple of forums. I also need to start looking at my first review item for TOS Review Crew.
So, how was your week? Did you have wheat harvest? Was it good? Our wheat was not as good as normal, most likely weather related, but our hay is good, so we are praising God for that. We had a safe wheat harvest and are glad it is over.

A TOS Crew FM visiting here! I’d love to say that I commisurate with the heat. But, I have the opposite problem in our new Alaskan home. It doesn’t feel like summer is here when temps sometimes barely reach 60. We’re trying to grow a garden, but wonder how fruitful it will be…

No we don’t have a wheat harvest, but I love the idea of being on a farm. Sounds like a good week, except for the humidity, humidity is no fun.
