Summer Fun doesn’t have to cost a fortune…

I hear a lot about how children don’t know how to entertain themselves.  They need this electronic device or that toy.  My children can play outside for hours, or re-enact the Civil War or some other historical event or a scene from a book for days…DAYS.

Every day my children have TWO WHOLE hours of down time.  They are either to be sleeping or reading or doing some sort of hand work.

In today’s busy-ness, children get too much stimulation and forget how to not have it.  Having two hours where they get no radio, no TV, no Computer, or other electronic device or verbal feedback from anyone helps my children to keep their ability to play without extras guiding them.

I know not every one has 100+ acres for their children to play, however let’s leave enough space in our manicured yards to give children a place to run at home.  Let’s give them a place to have their own gardens.  My son’s garden is better than mine…Go figure…

Some ideas to help keep your summer fun, frugal and entertaining:

  • Bubbles~The bubbles I linked to, are the best bubbles we have ever bought.
  • Playing in the sprinkler

My friend Traci’s Children Playing in the sprinkler.

  • sidewalk chalk
  • gardening
  • planting flowers and blessing the elderly with the bounty~bonus, elderly love to tell stories from their childhood and children LOVE them.
  • Sew something basic
  • loopy pot holders
  • Museums
  • Library
  • Zoo
  • Swimming~we only go about 3 to 4 times a year.
  • canning
  • baking
  • crafts~nature crafts are fun
  • Nature Walks

In today’s techno age, our children are forgetting how to play, how to not have something to watch or type or give constant digital feedback.

We love to have friends over and have picnics.

Most of these are going to be fun for you too!!
