Homeschool Mother’s Journal Feb. 4

In my life this week…The Homeschool Mother's Journal

I have been going through curriculum, trying to decide about changes we will be making for the next year.  We are struggling with our oldest, keeping his interest and trying to keep him motivated.  He is one, I have to work to keep a lot of his lessons centered around his interest. Sometimes it is nearly impossible.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

Don’t let discouragement pull you down.  There are good and bad days in homeschooling.  There are season when the bad days out number the good days.  Isn’t life this way too?  Why should we expect anything different with homeschooling?

I am inspired by…

Holy Spirit-Led Homeschooling’s New eBook about homeschooling boys. I can see this being a huge blessing to so many.  In most homes, the mother is home with the boys and well, honestly, we don’t really get the “boy things” all the time.  Especially those of us who grew up as only children.  Boys are well…sometimes I have to wonder if they really are human, or is it me that isn’t human?  Their thought process and so many things are different. I love my boys, but some days I don’t understand their actions, or what they consider fun.

Things I’m working on…

Organizing a few troubling areas of our home.  I have two bathroom closet shelves left and then I will start on the shelves in the bathroom itself.  Little by little, progress is being made.

I am also updating my poor wardrobe.  I have a few gift cards from birthdays and Christmas pasts.  Plus a area consignment store went out of business.

I found a couple of good deals on eBay also.  I had a little Paypal money from selling a few items a couple of weeks ago.  It is amazing how a few updates to your wardrobe can help you feel a little better about your “roundness”.  The post baby tummy is something I have to accept and having a wardrobe that is a little more fashionable that also helps to conceal it, is a good thing.  Even if I wasn’t able to update, I wouldn’t trade my 20 year old body shape for now for nothing, because I have six beautiful children that are so much more to me then it ever was.

I’m reading…

How to Have a Heart for Your Children.  I am still behind, but I am gaining so much.  I am really enjoying this book and will hopefully find some time to go further into detail about it at some point.

I’m cooking…

Fish and Chicken.  We eat a ton of beef and this time of year it is ground beef, until we are able to butcher our own grass fed steers.  Right now we are all sick of ground beef. So, it is chicken and fish for a few days.

I’m grateful for…

My husband who will be taking on the Mr. Mom role as I take off for South Carolina in March.  I am proud of him and pray he and our children have a ton of fun.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

This is the tractor that is the “mascot” of our farm and here on my blog.  In August, it went through a tornado that took out the shed that it was in.  During that, there was quite a bit of damage done to the hood, exhaust and air cleaner.  My husband spent many hours over the last three weeks putting things back together.  We didn’t repaint or anything, but he rebuilt and overhauled a few things.  I hope to get a picture of it al put back together soon.

Our sons’ helped him with much of the work he put into this.

This tractor a 52 G John Deere has been in our family for four generations now.  My grandpa bought it new to use on his farm in 1952, when my dad was just ten years old. It was sold out of our family back in 1993.  In 2009, my husband bought it back, and it is one of the few things we have from my father’s side of the family.  My father passed away September 16, 1996.

When I first saw the tractor after it went through the tornado, I cried, today, I cry for the joy to have a husband who enjoys this tractor as much or even more then I do.

What a lovely time you’re having on the Prairie! I’m glad you added in a few new outfits. That always makes me feel better. :-) I’m believing for more babies and they are more important than my waist line (or lack there of :-) Thank you for mentioning the book. I pray that the Lord uses it to touch a few moms who are dripping w/ boys. SEE you soon!

Yes! there are good and bad days in homeschooling and in life. Instead of focusing on how our day is, focus on who we get to share it with :)

~> I am also in need of new clothing :( I have gained some unwanted weight this past year and I am in need of some more flattering larger sizes.
I hope to be able to shed the weight one day, but the older you get the harder this seems to be….
    I enjoyed reading your blog!

Learning how to homeschool isn’t easy, but it’s worth it! ~> Proud HS’ing mom “Keri” to DD & DS <3
