Computers have been around for a long time, and homeschooling has been around for a long time, however using them together really has now, especially in many homeschool households.

How do you handle computer use in your homeschool with your children? Do you allow them to have non school related time on the computer? How much? What do they typically do? Also, What subjects do your children do on the computer? If it is a program, which one? Likes/dislikes.
We have only been using the computer in our homeschool for two years. We started when my son was struggling with math. I had him to a couple of samples of Teaching Textbooks and we found the ticket to get out of our math struggles. Since that day, we have added a little more computer work to our school days. We also do Spelling City and he does his writing on the computer.
In our home, I have added safe monitoring software to the computers that our children use. We use K9 Web Protection and it works very well. It is customizable, and you are able to set times that they have internet access.
We also use our computers to watch instant Netflix movies that correspond with our lessons.

At this time, I really limit what “free” time my children have on the computer. They don’t have email, Facebook or any chat room type of access.
