Believe it or not, someone once said I didn’t like change. However, considering that I keep changing things, I either:
- Like Change
- Need to rework things more often then most
- Am Never satisfied.
I am going to say it is Number 2. I think the reason I am changing things all the time, could very well be that I have several children at different ages. Our lives are in a constant adjustment to the next stage and all stages in between. From the baby stage, where mama was always close to baby, to the toddler stage where I am trying to stay close to disrupt the inevitable catastrophe that is about to happen, to the I already know that mom stage. Those of us who happen to be blessed to be able to enter all those stages at once, may very well be in a constant change.
Over the last week and a half, my blog has gone through some changes. Host, theme and design. These changes though hair raising and patience robbing at times will hopefully make this a better place for all.
Our homeschool also went through some changes. Because of the amount of time I am spending on the computer with my blog stuff, school stuff, and blog design stuff, I needed a better place to work. I had been at our dining room table where we do a lot of our sit down school work. However, that was not working for my back issues. Between the height of the table, and chair and the lack of support that chair offered, I was beginning to have constant back issues. So, my wonderful husband and I brainstormed on Sunday morning (sick children in our home kept us home from church.) we had a desk in the basement of his parents home. We decided to bring it here, and place it in our family room in a corner. This is now my work area. I am putting my laptop away in the top drawer between each working time I have. When I get it in the drawer, I then scoot the desk so that the drawers are against the wall. That way little hands don’t get into things they shouldn’t be.
The benefits of this change are:
- I am even closer to my younger children.
- I am learning to work with the noise they create.
- They are learning some more manners in keeping the noise level to an appropriate indoor level.
- The computer is more centrally located for our unit studies that we do as a family.
- When hubby is home, I can still work if needed, or we can easily all watch a download movie together without having to set it all up.
- I am no longer having backaches.
So far, the only con I have is that I can’t just get up and leave the room. I need to put the laptop in a safe place so it doesn’t get dropped by curious fingers. So, I am planning ahead when I will need to leave the room, so I can make sure the need outside of the room will take longer then shutting the computer off, putting it away and setting it up again.
The way this has changed our homeschool is, one of my children now does school in the family room with me, and the other sits at our dining room table. They both still do a little work everyday on their computer. I do preschool and kindergarten in the family room throughout the day.
Have you made any changes in your home? What are the benefits or cons?

Like the new look!

Looks good Betty. And you are right, as our kids grow from one stage of life to another, so the changes in our homes/families need to be made along with them. Constantly changing if you have kids ranging in age from 4 to 31 like I do
