Preschool Fun~Keeping them occupied during homeschool lessons.

Over the last few weeks, as I was preparing for our school year, I made a change, that I hadn’t really talked about.

I decided NOT to put our 3.5 year old in with our kindergarten and first grade.  He is able, but he is not ready, as his attention span does not have the ability to stay with us.

So, I have been finding some fun printables to use with our preschoolers.

One of my favorite on line resources has many printables that are sure to bless your preschool too.  Many of those printables are able to be printed and then laminated to make them reusable.

We also like to have my older children work with the youngers on things like flash cards, reading to them and playing short easy games.  This is good for both age groups.

With preschool aged children, just playing nicely and quietly with others or by themselves is a huge learning opportunity, because in my experience, playing quietly does not come naturally.

My preschool children also love to color.  I stock up on the $1 coloring books on a regular basis, so if I need to give them something new for “school” to help keep them occupied, I have it on hand.

Here is our Preschool basket of activities.   Many printed from the above link.

What do you do with your preschoolers while you are working with your other students?

I know it can be trying to keep the little ones entertained while you work with the older ones. You want them to get “something” educational out of a little bit of their play time. LOL Have you tried the preschool program at Time4Learning? Just a thought.

Great minds think alike! I have 2 preschoolers (ages 3 - a boy, and 4 - a girl). My 4 year old is learning to read this year (her desire) and could sit and work with the “big kids” for well over an hour at a time, even last year when she was 3. So I include her in many of our learning activities. However, our 3 year old son is no where near ready. I have a box for him with things like play dough, coloring books, wooden beads to string, stickers, etc. We are working this year on expanding his ability to be in the school room and quietly active while I am doing hands on stuff with the other children.

We do many of the same things with the 4 & 6 year olds who do some main lessons with the three olders (phonograms, art, nature), but still require busywork because they want lessons, too! BUT… it never occurred to me to put it all in a basket. Thank you!

What do I do? Well….I’m in the midst of it with my almost 2 year old. I’m having quite a time of it trying to entertain him while helping the older kids. We’ve come to have the older three take turns playing with The Nip Napper while I take turns helping whomever needs my help. I’m hoping that when he’s a bit older things will be easier. I’m saving your article!
