I ask this question, as I hear many different thoughts on this. I never have actually said much to anyone, but I know when I was in public school, it was always exciting to see if we had school or not. In many ways, I don’t want to take that away from my children, so I tend to cut our “school” day short. You know, cover the basics and turn them loose to have some fun.
One of my main reasons is, we don’t get much snow where we live very often-two times a year is often. And what I am calling much is over 5 inches. We get dustings often, but not enough to build forts, snowmen, angels, and sledding very often. I can see not having snow days if you have winters full of snow, but here, we don’t, so they are special days. For us snow is a gift to enjoy, and why not?
We also do some nature study with our snows..Animal behavior changes-flying birds, rabbits, deer, coyotes, etc. How do the tree and plants look different? Is the snow good for them or hard on them? How does snow fit into our water cycle?
So, in the above circumstances, would you have snow days? Why or Why not?

Hello. I have enjoyed reading about your homeschooling journey. In answer to your question,” do you have snow days”… We do not have snow days. when it is snowy and cold we do our regular day (of course we add hot chocolate) but we take Sun Days instead of snow days. When it is warm outside and we just can’t seem to find the desire to stay inside we take it outside. We go fishing or work in the yard etc…
